Hi, I’m Barbara Allyn Barry, M.S.Ed., LMFT #107301 – a licensed Psychotherapist and I welcome you to Wellness Based Therapy.

I strive to advance awareness and the ability to to change ourselves in order to find meaning in our lives. For centuries therapists have dealt with the mind, often overlooking the fact that consideration should encompass not only the head but body and spirit as well. We now know that what we eat, how we move, and the community of people that surround us contributes to our well being as much as the thoughts and feelings that we are experiencing.
I specialize in helping those struggling from traumatic experiences ranging from losing a job or home, the loss of a loved one or someone important in your life to losing a pet or even feelings of being lost.
My background includes being trained by leading trauma specialists including Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D. who wrote “The Body Keeps the Score” as well as Peter Levine, Ph.D., Director of The Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute and Janina Fisher, Ph.D., Psychologist, Instructor and Trauma specialist. These experts and their important research and work have inspired me to encompass tools such as diet and nutrition, yoga and meditation, self-regulation, mindfulness and being aware of our present selves. Therapy is targeted towards change and the challenge is to integrate these changes in to a new way of living and thinking.
I am currently offering “virtual therapy” to residents of California. We utilize secure, private and HIPAA compliant online therapy platforms that allow you more flexibility with your time and doesn’t limit your sessions to be confined to an office setting. Our virtual therapy sessions can take place in the comfort of your own home, at the beach, in the mountains or wherever you choose using your mobile, tablet, or personal computer with a wifi/data connections and a headset if desired.
Challenging the meaning of life is the truest expression of the state of being human.
